The fifth chapter in our FRAME Views: Communal Living video series highlights Qingshan Co.Space, a co-working and co-living space showing lifestyle possibilities beyond the city.

Situated in Qingshan Village, Hangzhou, Qingshan Co.Space emerged in response to the rise of digital nomads in the aftermath of the COVID situation in China. This trend prompted Team_Bldg’s transformation of the disused Longwu Spring Water Plant into Co.Space. It serves as a transitional haven, enabling city dwellers to adapt to village life for several months or more. The structure resembles a building without doors: private spaces are concentrated on the upper floors, creating a semi-open market ambience on the ground floor. This open layout fosters a welcoming atmosphere for villagers and visitors alike, promoting integration with the community. ‘It is very important to follow commonality throughout the design process, and give up the practice of controlling every aspect from a distance,’ says Xiao Lei, chief architect of Team_Bldg.
