So let me first state the following: I am not telling anyone who views this to go out and use another type of oil other than what GM recommends. I am doing this video simply to chronicle the situation I am in due to the nationwide shortage of oil and filters for the 3L Duramax.

I drive my truck a lot and was turned away for an oil change based on availability of resources so I had to improvise. I did my homework and at this point I had to get it changed. I was able to find a replacement filter for now and used DEXOS 2 oil, the same approved for the 2.8L Duramax with DPF system. Time will tell if all is well, but you'll know either way.
