European Health Data Space – Opportunities Shared Dataspace Brings to Startups

Liina Kamm sees untapped business and scientific potential in data and works with companies and governments to solve privacy and business data confidentiality problems in AI and analytics. She is fortunate to have this as a day job, working as a senior researcher and project lead in Cybernetica AS, an Estonian company that has designed the cryptographic underpinnings for Estonian e-government innovations like X-Road, Smart-ID, and internet voting. Her professional career started in designing software for the Estonian Genome Foundation and for cross-border clinical trials. Now, her research focuses on enabling privacy-preserving statistical analysis for social sciences and genomics. She is the chairman of Technical Committee 4 (Information Technology) of the Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation and represents Estonia in ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 Working Groups 2 and 5.

Timo Kanninen is the Chief Science Officer and founder of BC Platforms (Biocomputing Platforms Ltd). He is the visionary behind BC Platforms’ integrated clinical and genomics data management and analysis systems and has long-term experience in software development, genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, and clinical statistics. He is also the founder and CEO/CTO of Statwell Oy (1990‐2002). The company provided statistical consultation and developed software for data collection and statistical analyses of personnel and occupational health questionnaires. The company was merged into BC Platforms in 2002.
