STORYLINE:
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz joined a conference call between G-7 leaders on Sunday to discuss their response after Iran's unprecedented aerial attack on Israel.

Scholz joined the meeting from the Chinese city of Chongqing where his is on an official visit.

Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate amid the ongoing war in Gaza, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

Iran launched the attack in response to a strike widely blamed on Israel that hit an Iranian consular building in Syria earlier this month and killed two Iranian generals.

Israeli authorities said 99% of the inbound weapons were shot down without causing any significant damage.
