About my locks come from prison statement/braids: I am sorry for providing you with the wrong information. I interviewed my black friend who thought of this as a fact and I never questioned it. But now I know they existed long before prison existed. Thank you for educating me.

In this video I would like to talk about why society likes to claim black inventions and give no credit to them.

A few years ago I was asking myself where the annual popular words and terms come from. Like: Bae, lit, fleek, slay, AND I OOP, squad, basic, ratchet etc.. We All know that at some point we all said those words, but why? Little do we know that all those words come from AAVE and we say those things cause they simply sound cool and have some type of SWAG (see what i did there;) to them.

I wrote my bachelors thesis about this topic, because I never really understood why people are so mad about non black people wearing braids for example. I used to think that wearing certain aesthetics from other cultures can only be an act of appreciation and it shouldn't be a reason to get cancelled for. When nikita posted a picture of her wearing braids, and she wrote a whole paragraph thanking the black community i didnt understand why people are still mad, when she clearly gave credit.
Since this is a topic I barely understood, I wanted to make it my mission to understand and this video's purpose is also to make people who don't understand, understand.
