Super Alloy 1 is used in thousands of shops in the US. Mike demonstrates how to make the same repairs your local shop is using... with a propane torch. Always clean your aluminum before soldering. A stainless brush works well to clean the aluminum tubes. You can repair cuts in the side of the tubing. You will need to remove the fins in the area when working on the side of the tube. Super Alloy 1 will not burn or melt the fins if soldered correctly. The same rod will work on brass radiators. Always work perpendicular or straight up from the hole or cu in the radiator. You want to torch to mushroom out evenly when the flame hits the aluminum. This will ensure an even heat on the tubing. You can solder on the tube to header on the aluminum and brass radiators. If you only have an oxyacetylene torch to work with, just make sure to turn the oxygen way down as 350°F can get there quickly with this torch. The rod will work with some heat guns. Always flux before, during, and at the end as the flux is needed to make an airtight repair. You can work with the radiator in the vertical position. Let the solder cool naturally. You can use warm water and a wire brush to remove the flux. Clean the flux off of the rod before placing it back into the PVC tube.
