If variety is the spice of life, Bree Runway empties the entire shaker into the skillet. Is she a rapper? Maybe. Perhaps the best contextual musician is Missy Elliot, who showed love for Runway’s fangirl incorporation of “Get Ur Freak On” aesthetics in the vid for her song “APESHIT.” The most hip-hop things about the UK artist are her vocal delivery, an even-keeled cadence, and her brassy wardrobe composed of the brands rappers rap about. Her outfit in her video for “DAMN DANIEL,” which has over 700k views, was inspired by Shania Twain’s iconic cheetah suit. On Twitter, she recently posted a vid of her twerking to the new Tame Impala record. And since there’s no such thing as too much bad-girl energy, Runway invited two backup dancers to her Ctrl performance of two songs from her new album, “2000AND4EVA.” A little dub-reggae feel inflects “ROLLS ROYCE,” whereas “ATM” takes a drum break straight from mid-aughts British house.
