April 20 marks 25 years to the day of the Columbine massacre, a mass shooting at a Colorado high school that resulted in 15 deaths.

Ahead of that solemn anniversary, Vice President Kamala Harris met with Heather Martin, who was a senior at Columbine back in 1999.

Now a teacher herself, Martin is also the co-founder of The Rebels Project, an organization dedicated to providing support for survivors of mass shootings and other tragedies.

As vice president, Harris has headed the White House’s first-ever Office of Gun Violence prevention.

‘During the conversation, the Vice President uplifted the role of advocates like Heather in helping the Biden-Harris Administration pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years,’ a White House official told NowThis. ‘This engagement was a continuation of her leadership as the head of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.’
