Before I test-drive a car, I always make a coffee and spend a half-hour reading over as much of the technical jargon and engineering notes I’m able to find on it. As a purebred geek, I love this sort of reading–but it also shows me what goes into these cars, so I can give you a better sense of what you’ll get out of them, in real life conditions.

Targeted structural reinforcement and lightening of components down to the very lug-nuts on the wheels were part of the package. Extensively validated suspension systems, isolators, and steering tuning help give the IS 300 a distinctive feel on the road. Here, the full brunt of Lexus’s Japanese engineering is deployed towards an all-out attack on unwanted vibrations, noises. sensations and feedback from the car.

These efforts are so extensive, they’ve even got a name: the Lexus Driving Signature.
