The UK’s post Brexit relationship with Europe: What do we want – and what will the EU let us have?

Why you should watch:

Wolfgang Munchau is one of the most perceptive and influential analysts of EU/UK relations - and Jonathan Isaby is one of the most articulate defenders of Brexit. How do they think negotiations with the EU are going - and what sort of a deal (if indeed there is to be a 'deal') will emerge? And, frankly, does it matter if there is to be No Deal? one of the fascinating suggestions that emerged from this discussion is that, just maybe, the best thing for both sides would be for negotiations to break down, for the UK to leave without a deal, and for talks to recommence (maybe late next year) from a position in which both sides would have something to gain from compromise. At the present time, it might be argued, both sides seem to feel a deal would require too many concessions; hence, there isn't the imperative to settle.

Moderator: Andrew Hilton (Director, CSFI) & Jane Fuller (Co-director, CSFI)

 Panellists:

Wolfgang Munchau is the director (and co-founder) of EuroIntelligence - a 'specialist service for news and analysis of the EU and eurozone'. He is a former associate editor of the FT, a columnist for the paper, and a former co-editor of FT Deutschland. As he says, 'he speaks with a German accent, and writes with a British one'.

Jonathan Isaby is the new director of Politeia, which he joined in September when Sheila Lawlor moved over to be director of research. He is a former editor of BrexitCentral, chief executive of the Taxpayers' Alliance, and co-editor of ConservativeHome.
