This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Porsche Macan EV compact luxury SUV. There are two models of the Macan EV available, the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. Porsche believes these models will fulfill their customer’s needs through its timeless design, performance and practicality. Porsche’s goal is to offer the sportiest performance EV model in this segment.
The Macan EV uses the latest generation of PSM electric motors on the front and rear axles. In combination with launch control, the Macan 4 produces up to 402 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The Macan Turbo 630 horsepower and 833 lb-ft of torque. The Macan 4 goes from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and the Macan Turbo 3.3 seconds. That’s 0-60 in 4.9 seconds for the Macan 4 and 3.1 for the Turbo. The two models reach a top speed of 220 and 260 km/h. That’s 136 and 161 mph. The range has not been announced yet, it should be available closer to the delivery date which is the second half of this year.
The Macan EV has a 95 kWh useable battery and is compatible with 800 volt charging architecture with charging speeds up to 270 kW. The battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes. This EV uses an 800-volt architecture for faster charging. Many current DC fast chargers can’t put out energy as fast as the Macan EV can accept. But Porsche has a workaround for that problem. At a 400-volt charging station, a high voltage switch in the battery enables bank charging by splitting the 800-volt battery into two batteries each with 400 volts.
The Regen braking allows up to 240 kW of power to be recuperated via the electric motors while driving.
Both Macan EV models come standard with air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management electronic damping control which features dampers with two-valve technology.
For the first time, the Macan is available with optional rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of five degrees. The Macan EV can tow just over 4400 pounds.
The Macan EV is available to order now with delivery in the second half of the year. In Canada, the Macan 4 starts at $99,300 CAD and the Macan Turbo $125,300 CAD. In the US, the Macan 4 is $80,450 USD and the Turbo $106,950 USD.
