Anyone with anything on his or her mind could be behind the wheel. A traffic stop is a total craps shoot. It could little Granny Smith with a bad taillight or it could be a serious felon who has nothing to loose. Although the registration of the car can provide basic information to an officer, the car could be stolen. There is no way for an officer to know for sure who is in the car and what their intentions are.

The bottom line is, a traffic stop is a high stress situation for law enforcement. Anything that you can do during a traffic stop to reduce the level of stress will work to your advantage. If there is a question in an officer’s mind whether to issue a warning or citation, how you conducted yourself will certainly play a huge part. Not only can it potentially help you go about your day without a citation, more importantly in can ensure the safety of both you and the officer.
