I sail with P&O, DFDS (FR) and Irish Ferries between Dover and Calais, and with DFDS (UK) between Dover and Dunkirk. What is the best cross-channel ferry operator - and which is the worst?

00:00 - Introduction
01:39 - DFDS (UK) Dover to Dunkirk
07:39 - DFDS (FR) Calais to Dover
14:00 - Irish Ferries Dover to Calais
22:39 - P&O Ferries Calais to Dover
32:30 - Price and how to book
34:26 - To Sum Up - which is best?
35:56 - Outro

In this video we travel on the flagship of each Dover Ferry operator. We sail with four vessels operated by three ferry companies to both Calais and Dunkirk, looking in particular at:

-What is the check-in and boarding like in Dover and in Calais?
-Which ferry company has the best ships overall?
-What is Club Class like on Irish Ferries - and is P&O Club Class worth it?
-What is the Premium Lounge like on DFDS - both on a Dunkerque ferry and on a Calais Ferry?
-Which ferry operator is the best for hot food - and which has the WORST food offering?
-Who has the best Duty-Free Shopping, and who is the cheapest?
-How does my dog travel on the ferry?

As an ex-seafarer myself I’ll also talk a little about where each ship is registered.

We’ll also look at the price I paid, and how to book.

We start off travelling with DFDS (UK) from Dover to Dunkirk / Dunkerque aboard the Dunkerque Seaways.

For our next voyage we travel with DFDS (FR) from Calais to Dover aboard the Côte d'Opale.

Next day we travel with Irish Ferries aboard the Isle of Inishmore from Dover to Calais.

We return from Calais to Dover with P&O Ferries aboard the Spirit of France.

Irish Ferries and P&O Ferries are registered in Limassol and sail under the flag of Cyprus, referred to as a Flag of Convenience, or Flagging Out. You can read various articles about the practice here:

GEEKY TECH STUFF

This video was filmed mostly on a GoPro Hero11 and an iPhone 11 Pro Max. Intro and outro on a Sony A7C.

Despite the decent footage, the GoPro was hugely unreliable and crashed/froze multiple times. It has since been returned to the retailer for a refund.
