Whether or not you use off-grid power, diesel is a dirty word to many environmentalists these days. But an internal combustion engine that runs on diesel lasts much longer than a gasoline engine and gets much more power out of a liter of fuel. Moreover, in addition to diesel, that fuel can also be just salad oil. After all, Mr. Diesel's first diesel engine ran on walnut oil. If you include the entire CO2 footprint, I am not sure that gasoline is more environmentally friendly than diesel.
Having said that, I will gladly dedicate a short film to our loyal diesel generator that always provides us with power when the sun doesn't show up or when we need a lot of power in a short period of time without wanting to drain our batteries right away. For example for hot water to wash the dishes, take a shower or do the laundry. The special diesel room we built for it is now ready!
In the future we hope the diesel generator can retire because we 'll have extra electricity from hydropower and wind energy. But for now, we are very happy with its services. 😘
