Reverend Father Mark Bryan Beard, delivered his last Sunday homily 30 July 2023, in front of the low altar at the Church of Saint Helena, 122 South 1st Street, Amite, Louisiana, U.S.A.. This video presents excerpts from 4 of many homilies he delivered during the period of January – May 2023.

Father Beard never made it to 80 or 90 years of age. He was 62. Pray now for the first intercesssory miracle. Addressing many pressures experienced by millions today, Rev. Fr. Mark Beard was an irrepressible preacher for Jesus Christ. On 2 August 2023, Fr. Beard was returning from speaking at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Retreat Center in Chatawa, MS, when, heading south on Interstate 55 near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line, he crested a hill, and suddenly saw that traffic was backed up, and instead of injuring or killing others, tried to take a safe path off the road. At about 1:00 p.m. his vehicle left the roadway and went into the median before striking a concrete culvert, causing his vehicle to overturn.

Fr. Beard was pastor of Saint Helena Catholic Church. He earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University and a Master’s in Divinity from Notre Dame Seminary. He also received a certification in Spirituality (Spiritual Direction), and Divinity. Rev. Father Beard worked for a number of years in his family’s business, Beard Engineering and United Industries, a company working in the manufacturing and engineering of wastewater equipment. Here, he received a patent for the Turbulence Control System. After a trip to Medjugorje in 2000, he began to consider priesthood as a possible vocation. After 4 years of discernment, Fr. Beard entered Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, Louisiana in 2004 and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Louisiana on May 30, 2009, at The Cathedral of Saint Joseph. He served the diocese as Associate Pastor at The Church of the Most Sacred Heart in Gramercy, The Church of St. Joseph in Paulina, The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Convent, and at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Chapel in Lutcher for two years. He was pastor of Saint Helena Catholic Church, in Amite, Louisiana, for the last twelve years.

He was predeceased by his father Harold James Beard. He is survived by his mother Florence Mariotti Beard; his brother Gary Beard (Diane); his nephews, Jason, Nathan, Nicholas, Jacob and Jon; his niece Jennifer; his great-niece Gabriella Beard; and his godmother Nita Vicari.

Visitation was held 10 August 2023 with a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Visitation for family members and parishioners of Saint Helena Catholic Church was held in Saint Helena Parish Hall in Amite on 11 August 2023 with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Helena Church. Burial followed at Amite Memorial Gardens in Amite.
