The hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common liver cancer of which incidence is rising in the US. The common cause of this disease is non-alcoholic fatty liver, especially NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) as well as alcoholic liver cirrhosis.
When the cancer is liver-confined, patients can be cured by surgical resection or liver transplantation.
But when diagnosed in advanced stages, the prognosis was decimal in the past because traditional chemotherapy is not effective in this kind of cancer.
Thanks to recent advances in locoregional therapies and systemic therapy with immunotherapy drugs and multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors, the survival rate has been imroving.
