According to Mark Twain, the greatest general of all time was a Boston bricklayer named Absalom Jones... but he never got a chance. He was rejected by a military recruiter for a minor physical shortcoming. Twain would argue that too often superficial impressions keep the deserving from opportunities or catapult those with no real ability into positions they don't deserve and can't handle. As Gilbert and Sullivan wrote "Things are seldom what they seem". We need to be wary...look hard...go beyond the obvious. Do all we can to give everyone a fair chance and no one an unfair advantage.
