Before applying a top coat of paint to bare metal, it's important to prepare the surface with two types of automotive primer.

Rust-Oleum Automotive Self-Etching Primer etches metal surfaces to help ensure maximum adhesion. After etching the metal, apply Rust-Oleum Automotive Primer-Sealer to bond the base coat and achieve a smooth surface. When applied over Self-Etching Primer, the Primer-Sealer will also prevent automotive paint from seeping into the primed surface.
