On April 8, Buffalo, NY, is one of the few major cities along the center of the path of totality. The width of the path of totality depends on the geometry of the Sun, Moon, and Earth, and it varies as the Moon’s shadow passes across Earth’s surface. In Western New York, the path will be about 110 miles wide. Places like Buffalo , NY, that are along or close to the center of the path of totality, or the center line, will experience a longer and darker totality.

Totality Tuesday is a series by Kevin Williams, associate professor of geosciences and director of the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium, which will provide information about the total solar eclipse that will be visible throughout Western New York on April 8, 2024.
