80’s were a great decade for family sitcoms. Like Family Ties and Valerie they were not afraid to talk about taboo subjects rather then now were it’s about being too politically correct or even ignoring important issues such as drugs, violence, sexism, peer pressure, bureaucracy and equality without glorifying it.

Family sitcoms opened debate and educated an audience. It taught the importance of morals and righteousness from a family perspective, which is the foundation of personal growth & development.

These shows also show the importance of family. Allot of parents or soon to be parents were educated by watching these shows. It’s this generation that will teach the generation beyond the importance of family, respect and thinking beyond racism or feminism by equality first as this effected everyone.

It also did not feel pressure to talk about religion, as it knew it could alienate people. I looked at people by individual point of view and that way people were not judged.

I am the same age of the two twin brothers on the show which meant allot of these issues were even more relevant at the time. Great show and great memories.

We have mothers day and fathers day but there definitely should be a family day.
