Västerbottensost has a long and interesting history. Still made from the original recipe from 1872, it can only be produced in one dairy in the world, which is in a small northern Swedish village called Burträsk. Most exciting of all? The cheese was invented by accident. Hear cheese master Thomas Rudin tell this amazing story!

Did you know that Swedes eat about 20 kilos of cheese every year? Gritty hard cheeses have been made in Sweden for decades. Västerbottensost (Västerbotten cheese) is one of the most famous. It's named after the region of Västerbotten in northern Sweden.

This year marks 500 years since Gustav Vasa was elected king, which laid the foundation of Sweden as an independent state. During the next few months, we'll be bringing extra attention to the jubilee year that is 2023 and invite you to discover new sides of Sweden. Celebrate the jubilee with us! 🥳
