Philippe Crowe from Toyota Canada University joins Motormouth to do a walk-around the new Toyota Venza Hybrid Crossover. The Toyota Venza is back and no longer is it a wagon alternative, this all-new model is targeted right in the heart of the 5-passenger mid-size SUV market. The Venza is built in Japan using the same TNGA that is used for the smaller RAV4 and larger Highlander. Is it just me or does this look a lot like a Lexus RX? I got confirmation that this doesn’t share the same platform as the Lexus. It is made in Japan. This mid-size SUV fits right in between RAV4 and Highlander but with a major difference, this new Venza is only offered as a hybrid model. Using a 2.5L Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine and three electric motors, produces a combined output of 219hp. All Venza models in Canada with come with standard AWD. The all-wheel drive option, uses a separate electric motor at the rear of the Venza for on-demand AWD, meaning it only activates if conditions are met, like slippery roads or under acceleration. By not have a mechanic connection to the front motor, saves weight. Not only does the hybrid reduce fuel but the hybrid system is tuned for different modes from normal to Eco and sport. The Venza even has active cornering assist, using brake force to aid in cornering. The outcome of the hybrid system is an amazing estimated city and HWY fuel economy of just 5.9L/100km or almost 40 MPG. The interior has a new available star gaze fixed panoramic roof that is electrochromic, meaning the driver can make the roof either clear or frosted with the touch of a button, The centre infotainment screen sit high on the dash and is 8-inches on the base model and available with an optional 12.3-inch screen on the top trims. And yes, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard equipment now and there is an optional 1200 watt JBL premium audio system. There is an optional rearview camera embed into the rear view mirror and an available 10-inch HUD. The cabin has room for 5-passengers over two rows with a stylish interior and Toyota grade of materials yet it has the look of a Lexus RX does with Toyota grade trim. This will be appealing to many who like the size of a mid-size utility and the Toyota aproach to build quality and technology. Standard safety includes TSS 2.0, that includes pre-collision system, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure with lane trace assist, BLIS and cross traffic alert. and automatic high beams So the venza is back, looking very much more refined, with classic mid-size detentions and with Toyotas impressive hybrid technology.
