Ankle training for ice hockey is often under trained and undervalued when it comes to strength and conditioning for ice hockey. I'm sure all hockey players have heard the term, "bender" at some point in their playing career, which is slang for someone who has weak ankles that flop inward and can't skate well. Hockey players should prioritize their ankle and foot training because strong feet help transmit power from the legs into the ice. Think about trying to jump as high as you can in the sand. You don't very high because the sand isn't stable nor does it provide a good surface to absorb force. So, if your ankles and feet are weak, it is like trying to skate with sand in your feet instead of the muscles in your feet. Ankle training will allow the athlete to skate faster by putting more force into the while keeping their foot and ankle stable. #hockeytraining #hockeyspeed #strengthandconditioning
