Today I am talking about the RAM 2500 Cummins and it's outdated transmission. Ram has taken some heat over the years with it's transmission issues in it's 6 speed, but there is rumors that RAM could be working a deal with Allison Transmissions to potentially put their reliable and durable 10 speed transmission into their new heavy duty truck line up.

Hey guys after making a video about my friends 6.7 cummins last week and talking about how good the engine is. some people were mentioning that if only the transmission behind was as good to take all that power. So I started looking into the tranmission complaints and it seems like the current 6 speed has been around for some time.

the competition like chev and ford have both moved onto heavy duty 10 speed transmissions that probably really give the truck a lighter feeling. all those gears are also great for towing and accelerating because you can be at peak torque and horsepower longer with more gears to choose from.

But the rumor is that RAM is also looking a higher geared heavy duty tranmission. the first potential transmission is the 10 speed Allison and that would work very well in my opinion! many commercial ISB cummins (6.7) are already hooked up to an allison tranmission so cummins and allison are no stranger!

Allison transmissions are one of the best in the market, they are reliable and durable, yet cheap to maintain and operate. so if ram had one of these behind the already very durable 6.7 Cummins. it would make for an awesome duo and I think would make the best truck in the heavy duty segment by far.

the other option would be for RAM to go with a heavy duty ZF transmission option. the ram 1500 already come with a lighter duty 8 speed tranmission and it seems like customers like it and I don't see why RAM wouldn't also strongly consider using a ZF.

Personally I think if any tranmission of the two is going to go into these ram 2500 trucks with the Cummins engine it will be the heavy duty ZF 8 speed. Chrysler already has a deal with ZF and I think it would be an easier option for RAM.

I could be wrong but who knows!
