In 2017 Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz won Academy Awards for their work in La La Land. Chazelle won an Oscar for best director, and Hurwitz won 2 Oscars for best original score and best original song.

I got an opportunity to talk to Hurwitz and Chazelle in late 2016 in San Francisco just before the release of La La Land. I wondered about their first day in Los Angeles and about their dreams of making films in Hollywood. Chazelle and Hurwitz studied together at Harvard and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams.
