The fifth-generation Monte Carlo arrived with a larger, stronger platform it shared with the Chev Impala. This represented a massive improvement over the Lumina-based coupe it replaced. The key thrust was to improve the previous car’s ponderous handling. Well, it worked, kind of — the Monte still loved to wallow and roll through a corner, at least when compared to its Euro counterparts. However, when compared to the previous model it could do more than just run a straight-line drag.
The stretch in the wheelbase did improve both the handling and add some needed leg space for the rear riders, however, getting back there was still less than graceful chore. Likewise, the characterless interior featured iffy plastics. Alas, it a case of close but no cigar and far from being the full Monte! #montecarlo #motoringtv #throwbackthursday
