Bright red free standing cylindrical British Royal mail boxes are an iconic image many people have seen even those who haven't personally visited the U.K. in person. This is a double aperture Type C pillar box Royal Mail box near Westminster Abbey in Westminster, London, UK on 5/26/23. According to the internet, one is likely to find one of these double aperture boxes (which are obviously oval and not cylindrical) only in busy areas of London, which need a larger capacity box than other areas. These boxes are constructed of cast iron for strength and durability and while this example is a modern one from the reign of Elizabeth II, the pillar box mail box in various forms and designs has been in use in the U.K. since 1852.
