Well we watched enough "training videos" about Cavapoos and "separation anxiety" so felt we were as ready as we could be. It all seems so sad when a puppy has to leave its mother at 8 weeks but thats the norm and we are determined to give Little Dot or "Dotty" the loving but structured and rule based live that will allow her to enjoy life to the full in our house.
First off she has to have a crate and pen - and she will learn to love the crate - she will eat in there, we will play some games in there and it will be her quiet place. Cavapoos can't hold their bladder until they are about 20 weeks so we are using puppy mats at night which she used, immediately from Day 1 - what a great Breeder? But during the day we are watching her carefully and in 2 weeks have only had one little accident - the remainder of the number 1s and 2s are outside on the grass but the poor little bugger hates the rain - don't we all!!
Food - we have slightly adjusted what the breeder recommended and she is wolfing it back. We are determined not to share our own food with her - a mistake we made with our old dog, Gladys. You make a rod for your own back and can't take them anywhere without begging.
Play she is already going nuts, charging around the house sp we have now put her on a trailing lead so we can catch up with her - she loves her squeaky squirrel the most!
The biggest problem we had was her reaction to the vaccination - she was very VERY lethargic to the point that even the vet was worried about her when we took her back - but not so worried that they didn't slam in another £41 charge for the extra consultation!! We have not yet made our mind up on which vets to use.
