Checking for vacuum leaks on our 1975 Mercedes 280SL using our home made smoke machine, revealed some big problems with our throttle body……

There were no nuts on the lower studs and a complete absence of washers. Somebody had glued the old throttle body gasket in place making it an absolute nightmare to remove.

Worst of all, the threads on one of the brass coolant fittings were knackered and the coolant channel in the throttle body was completely blocked with gunk.

What should have been a 5 minute job turned into hours of work!
