During E!'s post Oscars "Fashion Police" coverage, host Giuliana Rancic was giving her thoughts on Disney star Zendaya's red carpet look and in particular her hair saying this:
As per usual it didn't take long for the internet to fire back against Giuliana, and one person in particular was Zendaya herself tweeting: “To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or ‘weed’ is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive. She went on to add There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair.“My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough.”
Giulianna's co host, Kelly Osbourne was getting pulled into backlash via social media and Kelly made it no secret as to how she felt about the whole ordeal tweeting that she might even leave the show. She said
I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT. I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW. Im giving everyone involved 24 hours to make it right or the world will hear how I really feel. contactually Im not allowed to speak!
Guiliana, trying to make things right, quickly responded to all of this on twitter saying Dear @Zendaya, I'm sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!
and then G released an official
Zendaya has yet to respond to Giuliana's apology but we wanted to hear your thoughts. Are you glad that Giulianna immediately tried to rectify her wrong?
