This virtual program is part of CCG “China and the World” webinar series featuring exchanges and dialogue between leading Chinese experts and prominent figures in intellectual and policy communities outside of China on topics concerning the current situation and dilemmas of China’s role in global affairs. Featuring a one-on-one dialogue between CCG president Dr. Wang Huiyao and Prof. Kerry Brown from King’s College London, this live program will take place at 4:30-6:00pm Beijing time on Mar. 02 via zoom.

Every year, the Two Sessions, as a window to observe China's development and an embodiment of Chinese democracy, cover China's essential economic and social development plans, drawing worldwide attention. As 2021 marks the beginning of China's new five-year plan period and the 100th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), eyes are on how the country will make further efforts in realizing its economic goals just set and building its new development paradigm.

For this 90-minute interview, Prof. Brown, a world-renowned Sinologist who has written extensively on China’s contemporary history, culture, and society, will share his views on China’s emergence on the world stage in the context of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic; his insights on the transition of China’s economic development as embedded in the 14th Five-Year-Plan to be unveiled during the two sessions; as well as his thoughts on the current situation and dilemmas of globalization and China’s role in it.

The Global Economic Prospects is the World Bank Group's flagship report on global economic development and prospects, with a special focus on emerging markets and developing economies. The reports are issued twice a year, in January and June, and serve as an important reference for governments and businesses of all countries to understand key trends of the global economy.
