With another day in Phoenix, Arizona ahead of me, I set out on an incredible Mexican food tour with my friend Mark Wiens! Come with me as I eat Mexican food with Mark Wiens for 24 hours in Phoenix, Arizona!

Weā€™d be hitting up three spots for lots of delicious Sonoran dishes. Sonora is the Mexican state that borders Arizona. Weā€™d be starting at Taqueria La Hacienda, a food truck that sells tacos, tortas, quesadillas, and more!

Mark ordered two tongue tacos and two head tacos, as well as a breakfast burrito. After watching the cooks prepare it all in the truck, we started with the head tacos with onion and cilantro. Tacos de cabeza are quintessential breakfast tacos!

I loved the spice level and the tortillas. I followed it with a pepper and the taco de lengua. It had an incredible texture and was full of flavor. The saltiness was also fantastic!

Then, we went with the chorizo and egg breakfast burrito. The crumbly scrambled eggs and minced chorizo with salsa and lime was unbelievable! Itā€™s a true breakfast of champions. This was real Mexican food!

After finishing, we drove 15 minutes to Taā€™Carbon for a caramelo and some carne asada tacos with cilantro, onions, lime, and salsa. They both used flour tortillas, which are more popular in Sonora, as opposed to the corn tortillas that are preferred elsewhere in Mexico.

The carne asada was so beefy and smoky! It was the best Mexican food of my life. Next, I had some horchata, or rice water, which is very sweet and combats the heat. Then, we jumped on the taco hass, which contained smoky chilies and cheese but wasnā€™t too hot. I loved it!

Finally, we had the caramelo, which is basically a quesadilla, which we added onions, cilantro, cabbage, salsas, and lime to. The flaky tortilla and smoky carne asada really made it!

Next, we drove to Mi Lindo Michoacan Mexican Corral, where weā€™d get some carnitas! Itā€™s the best place for carnitas in Phoenix. Markā€™s picture is even up in their window! In the kitchen, they let me try the carnitas, skin, and the stomach straight out of the vat of meat. It was so good and melted in my mouth!

First, we jumped on the nopales chalupa, which contains cactus, carnitas, and cheese, with spicy sausages on the side. The nopales had a bit of a slimy texture and was cheesy with a bit of a pickled flavor. Iā€™d never had it before!

We also had carnitas tacos at our table with Carlos. You should add a combination of the carnitas, ribs, and stomach to your tortilla, as well as the picked onions, and salsa. The soft tortilla and rich pork were unreal, and adding the vegetables added some freshness. They were some of the best tacos of my life! The skin was the best!

From there, Carlos, Mark, and I headed to El Caprichoso Hot Dogs for some Sonoran hot dogs. They come wrapped in bacon and come with peppers, toasted buns, beans, tomatoes, sauces, cheese, caramelized onions, and more. Theyā€™re massive!

The bacon-wrapped hot dog and fluffy bun were incredible. I loved the sauces, which sauces make them so messy but so good! The peppers were hotter than jalapenos but slowly built, and the pillowy bun was fantastic with the earthy beans, sweet caramelized onions, and fresh tomatoes. Iā€™m not a hot dog guy, but I loved this one!
