Actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista may have a tough exterior, but in a new video for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” star shows he has a soft spot for animals. As the guardian of three large, lovable dogs, Bautista wants everyone to know that you can’t judge a dog by their breed.

In an exclusive video, Bautista sits and plays with his adorable pups Sadie, Janie, and Frankie and talks to The HSUS about why he wanted to get involved with efforts to help animals and dogs like his.

Across the country, entire communities ban or restrict dogs because of their breed or perceived breed. Breed-based policies aren't founded on science or credible data, but on myths and misinformation surrounding different breeds. Their impact on dogs, families and animal shelters, however, is heartbreakingly real. Breed bans and restrictions force dogs out of homes and into shelters, taking up kennel space and resources that could be used for animals who are truly homeless. There is no evidence that breed-specific laws reduce dog bites or attacks on people, and they divert resources from more effective animal control and public safety initiatives.

The Humane Society of the United States opposes such policies as inhumane and ineffective, and is working to help increase dialogue among advocates and address harmful breed-based laws. The HSUS urges people to learn the truth about breed bans, and empowers people to help their communities to become places where dogs aren’t judged by their looks.

Bautista joins a list of other celebrities --including Dave Navarro, Steve-O, Kesha, Steve Aoki, Ricky Gervais, and Kaley Cuoco – who have teamed up with The HSUS to advocate for animals.
