We face a lot of challenges in astrophotography and light pollution is one of the most frustrating! In this video I'll give you a few tried-and-tested techniques to reduce light pollution in your own neighborhood.

While astrophotographers and astronomers are at the forefront of this fight, all life on earth is being negatively affected by light pollution. Birds fly into illuminated buildings, baby turtles are lured towards highways, insects are attracted to the lights, and nocturnal animals are confused by these lights.

It's up to each and every one of us to fight back! Unfortunately, society does not care; you won't see mainstream news calling for the end of streetlights, or advocating for light shielding. Therefore, we must approach this problem very carefully.

While it would be easy to attack the lights directly, or angrily berate our neighbors about their poorly designed lights, this will not help. We must find solutions that will have lasting impacts on light pollution. Thankfully, there are some easy ways to reduce light pollution in your neighborhood, and you can start today!
