Urban areas in the US and, of course, in most countries are not cheap to live in at all. But you know what? If you search well enough and are not too strict in your requirement for a home, you can find cheap urban places that you can choose from in America. That is what we shall be discussing in this video. We will show you the 10 cheapest urban areas to live in the US. 10. Salina KS Salina is a city in Saline County in the state of Kansas. It’s the seat of the county. As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,889. It is the intersection of Interstate 70 and Interstate 135, some 81 miles north of Wichita, still in Kansas, 164 miles west of Kansas City in Missouri, and 401 miles east of Denver in Colorado. In the latest quarterly cost of living index published by C2ER, that is, the Council for Community and Economic Research, it scores 80.9. To arrive at the cost of living index, regional differences in the price of consumer goods and services are measured with the exclusion of taxes and non-consumer expenditures. These are all based on households of professionals and managers in the top quintile. The indices used are housing, transportation, utilities, grocery items, healthcare, and miscellaneous goods and services. 9. Statesboro Bulloch County GA Let us next check on Statesboro in the state of Georgia. It is in Bullock County where it is the seat and the largest city. The cost of living in the city located in the southeastern part of Georgia with a population of 33,438 at the 2020 census is among the lowest in the country. Statesboro is the principal city of the micropolitan area Statesboro with over 81,000 residents. This city is also part of the Savannah–Hinesville–Statesboro statistical area. In the recent ranking, it scores 82.0 out of 100. We took particular note of not only how cheap the city is in the category of transportation and housing but also how cheaper things are getting in those categories. It scores as low as 82.4 in the transportation category as opposed to the state’s 105.1. Also, in the housing category where Georgia scores 82.4, it scores 53.7. 8. Richmond IN Richmond, a city in eastern Wayne County in the state of Indiana is our next point of call. The city, serving as the county seat of Wayne County, borders the state of Ohio. It is the county seat of Wayne County. The city situated mainly within Wayne Township with a population of 35,720 in the 2020 census has a non-contiguous portion in nearby Boston Township included in its area. It is the current location of Richmond Municipal Airport. The overall cost of living index in this city which is the principal city in its micropolitan area is 81.9. We would love to call attention to its healthcare category index which is currently 96.3, and especially to its much-lower cost of transportation index which currently stands at 60.8. 7. Topeka KS Topeka also in Kansas finds a place on this list. The state’s capital city and the seat of Shawnee County located along the Kansas River in the center of its county has about 126,000 residents as of the 2020 census. As one of the least expensive cities to live in and probably the cheapest state capital in the US, it has a cost of living index score of 81.7. In the transportation category, it scores 73.9, lower than the state’s 79.3 in the most recent index. It’s even more interesting in the housing category where it scores 47.6 compared to the already low 60.8 of the state.
