Most journalists will agree that the previous generation Escape was definitely getting rather long-in-the-tooth... Especially when considering the fact that the previous generation was in production for about 6 years (2013-2019). Simply put, Ford knew that they had to give the #FordEscape a complete redesign in order for it to remain competitive in the rapidly expanding (and rapidly improving) compact utility vehicle segment.

The 2020 model year not only marks the debut of an ALL-NEW Escape, but it also marks the resurrection of the Ford Escape Hybrid! The last time an Escape Hybrid rolled off an assembly line was back in 2013; so this is quite a big deal. Not to mention, the Escape Hybrid was the FIRST-EVER hybrid SUV when it first debuted back in 2005.

After being on an 8-year hiatus, the #EscapeHybrid nameplate is making a FUEL-SIPPING new comeback and is ready to reel in more sales for the Ford brand as a whole. After all, the Crossover SUV segment is flourishing in North America, so it comes as no surprise that Ford is trying their best to obtain a LARGER portion of the rapidly increasing SUV sales in the United States.

For 2020, Ford believes more options is BETTER. Therefore, they're offering a total of 4 different powertrain options. But is offering more options enough Ford to make the Escape a STRONG competitor against the other Compact Crossover SUVs on the market such as the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage, Jeep Cherokee, Chevy Equinox, Hyundai Tucson, VW Tiguan, and Subaru Forester.

As far as exterior dimensions go, the Escape will slot in larger than Ford's more compact EcoSport. But, the all-new Escape will still be notably smaller than vehicles such as Ford's Edge, Ford's Explorer, and Ford's Flex.

When looking at available features, pricing, dimensions, and safety technology; this ALL-NEW SUV seems to be very class-competitive. Consequently, these updates should theoretically make the 2020 Ford Escape a very solid entry in the ultra-competitive Compact #Crossover SUV segment.
