Here is a well I came across under a patio on a hill in Hampshire England. It was dug in the 17th Century - 1680s perhaps. If the English could dig this, they could easily have dug the money pit!

Turn your sound up. The water is about 40ft deep at the time and the noise is hitting the surface of course...

Imagine digging this by hand 350 years ago!! Its about 220ft to the bottom (below water) and 4 to 5ft wide only. It takes 15 minutes to pull up a bucket of water so how long did it take to dig and why? It would have always been quicker to walk down the hill and get water than even lower the bucket which is a half hour round trip?
