Talk on Chemical Utility of Flavin Monooxygenases: Classification and Biotechnological Applications

Kevin Francis obtained a PhD in Biochemistry in 2011 from Georgia State University (Atlanta, GA) under the direction of Prof. Giovanni Gadda. His doctoral work focused on establishing the physiological role and catalytic mechanism of flavin dependent nitronate monooxygenase. He then moved to the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) for his postdoctoral training with Prof. Amnon Kohen. He investigated possible roles of fast (fs-ps) protein dynamics in the hydride transfer reaction catalyzed by dihydrofolate reductase. He was recently approved for promotion to Associate Professor at Texas A& M University-Kingsville (Kingsville, TX) where he teaches Organic and #Biochemistry. His Current research has returned flavin monooxygenases and is predominantly carried out to train undergraduate students from underrepresented populations in STEM fields.
