Before CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the Tevatron held the title of the most powerful particle collider, where scientists discovered the top quark.

The LHC, with its 27-kilometer circumference, surpassed the Tevatron and played a pivotal role in the discovery of the Higgs boson. Now, plans are underway for an even more ambitious project—the Future Circular Collider (FCC). The FCC aims to be a colossal accelerator with a circumference of nearly 100 kilometers, surpassing its predecessors in both energy and intensity.

The FCC study involves a global collaboration of universities, research institutes, and industrial partners. Their collective efforts focus on designing the infrastructure, detector facilities, and governance structures necessary for this groundbreaking endeavor. Physics and detector studies, along with infrastructure and technology analyses, are being conducted to explore the feasibility of the FCC.

The conceptual design report for the FCC was submitted as input for the European Strategy for Particle Physics in 2020. With the adoption of this update by the CERN Council, CERN is now tasked with conducting a technical and financial feasibility study for the FCC, paving the way for its potential inclusion in the strategy update scheduled for 2027.

These ambitious plans highlight the scientific community's dedication to advancing our understanding of the fundamental particles and laws of physics. As we look towards the future, the FCC represents an exciting frontier for groundbreaking discoveries and further expanding the frontiers of particle colliders.
