Astronomers just discovered a ring around Dwarf Planet Candidate Quaoar! Vincent is here with Quaoar to get the full story. Quaoar is going to tell us all about the newly discovered ring along with how astronomers found it. Vincent, Quaoar and Weywot, Quaoar's moon, are so excited to share this news with you! This ring is strange because it is outside of Quaoar's Roche Limit. The Roche limit, sometimes referred to as the Roche radius, is the distance within which a celestial object held together only by its own gravity will be torn apart by the tidal forces of the larger celestial object it is orbiting. But, Quaoar's ring defies the Roche limit!
