Consumers shopping for Christmas trees this season should expect to pay about as much as they did last year, according to an expert at The Ohio State University. High-quality trees will cost about $12 a foot, said Kathy Smith, extension program director in forestry in Ohio State’s School of Environment and Natural Resources. The supply of trees may be tight this year, so the earlier consumers buy, the better, especially if they want a nicer tree. Smith noted that the trees people buy this year were planted sometime between 2008 and 2015, so it is not easy to adjust supply each year just based on demand.
