Bethlehem Steel was founded in 1857 and was once one of the most important industrial centers in the US. It was famous for producing armor and guns for many famous warships, such as the Iowa Class battleships) as well as structural steel for structures including The Empire State Building and The Golden Gate Bridge. The Bethlehem steelworks was located on the Lehigh river and was served by the Lehigh Canal and the Lehigh Valley Railroad. The Bethlehem steel mill went bankrupt and closed in the 1990s and is now a rusting ruin.

I take a look at the mill in its current state, give a brief summary of its history and discuss some of the leading theories for why it failed.
