My very good friend and roommate is in need of a paint booth, so lets make one! Thanks for checking out this build video and welcome to this custom steel fabrication project. This booth is good to go, for use with toxic oil paints and non-toxic acrylic paints. I can't wait to put a bunch of hours in on this new spray painting/ airbrush setup!

The main purpose of this painting station is to catch and contain overspray while venting fumes and vapors outside (through a window). Though, if I can try to make it as safe as possible, why not do so? In this video, I'll cover what hazards I'm trying to minimize, specifically fire hazards and the risk of depressurization. To make this booth as safe as I reasonably can, I've gone with a welded steel construction. The sheet metal is mostly assembled with TEK screws, or self drilling and tapping screws. I really got to put my 48" box / pan brake to use on this project and it did a great job. I wouldn't say this metal design is exactly fire proof, though I think it's safe to say it's fairly fire resistant. I chose a Dayton 1TDT2 squirrel cage blower fan for this build, which runs on 115 Volts, 2.05 Amps and moves 549 CFM of air. To save on space, we decided on a semi-downdraft design. The booth disassembles into two parts for easy carrying. I also did all of the electrical myself and lit the interior with LED's. The booth even has bars at the top to suspend or hang pieces for painting.

Before this booth was called complete, I made sure to silicone caulk every seam of the sheet metal to seal this unit up tight. We then took it to a local DIY sandblasting place and I was able to sand blast the booth myself. The last thing we did was use Tremclad oil based primer and paint to prevent any future rusting.

I really set out to create the best indoor spraying setup I could, something we would enjoy sitting at for hours on end. I think this work station is really going to come in handy and I hope I can inspire some makers to build their own.
