Making investment count: An interview with Sir Ronald Cohen

Why you should watch: Ronnie Cohen is variously described as the father of British venture capital (through his tenure at Apax Partners) and as the father of social investing (through his time as Chairman of Gordon Brown's Social Investment Task Force and his subsequent roles at Social Finance, Bridges Ventures, and Big Society Capital). But he is even more. He is also the author of a couple of genuinely important books - the latter of which, 'Impact: Reshaping capitalism to drive real change', was an FT business book pick in 2020, attracting praise even from Bono: 'Sir Ronnie (sic) provides the core operating manual for those seeking to do good while also doing well'. Currently hunkered down in Tel Aviv, he talks for Jane Fuller and Andrew Hilton.

Moderators: Andrew Hilton (Director, CSFI) & Jane Fuller (Co-director), CSFI)

Sir Ronald Cohen came to the UK as an eleven year-old refugee from Nasser's Egypt, made it as a scholarship boy to Oxford (where he was President of the Union) and thence to Harvard. In a stellar business career that began at McKinsey, he co-founded Apax Partners, Social Finance UK, Bridges Ventures, the Portland Trust and Big Society Capital. He is currently Chairman of the Global Steering Group for Impact Investment, a member of the Harvard Board of Overseers and a member of Oxford University's Investment Committee. He is also a scheduled keynote speaker at June's Impact Investment World Forum, and a compulsive tweeter.
