In the small village of Juwafat al-Kafrayn, nestled in the Dead Sea Valley, you can find Dar Al Shouneh and experience Jordanian hospitality at its best. Here, you can interact with the local villagers, who will share their culture, traditions, food, and stories of the past. All food is sourced directly from the surrounding permaculture gardens on-site or from sustainable local businesses.

The Dar Al Shouneh is a Partners for Good project funded by The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jordan. This project aimed to transform local communities by sustainably enriching the region's tourism, focusing strongly on women, youth, and farmers. In partnership with The Greening The Desert Project, Dar Al Shouneh can demonstrate, through permaculture's teachings, how sustainable living and food production systems can empower local communities and provide resilience and sustainable economic growth while nurturing the environment.

In 2007 The Greening The Desert Project was born. Its objective was to demonstrate how a small site with very poor soil could be transformed to grow a wide variety of food and sustainable living systems. The mission of this project has always been to help the local people and to provide more opportunities to the village and local surroundings. The Dar Al Shouneh Restaurant is the perfect extension to The Greening The Desert project. Here we can demonstrate and showcase the diversity of foods in our forest oasis and transform them into traditional meals expressed in the restaurant's menu and recipes. The restaurant and adjoining facilities, which are open 7 days a week, are here for both locals and tourists to enjoy. We aim to offer a fully immersive, authentic, traditional village experience that will provide lasting memories for all our visitors.
