What was intended to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention turned into a violent clash with police and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest — including Abbie Hoffman,
Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale — were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

The film also stars Academy Award winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Ready Player One) as defense attorney William Kunstler, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Snowden) as lead prosecutor Richard Schultz, Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon, Good Night, and Good Luck) as Judge Julius Hoffman, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Luce, Waves) as Fred Hampton, and Michael Keaton (Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Spotlight) as former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark.
