Japan's $100 Billion World's Fastest Train
With air travel cheaper and more convenient than it was even a decade ago, traveling by train seems a bit old fashioned. Traveling long distances by train not only takes time, it’s monotonous as well. However, trains are a major component of the Japanese public transportation system, and the government plans to invest in a new $100 billion dollar Maglev train service that will redefine train travel. By the year 2027, the majority of Japan’s railway network will be dominated by lightning-fast Maglev LO trains, regarded as some of the fastest trains in the world.

Maglev test runs at Yamanashi
The Maglev Train test runs in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan have become somewhat of a tourist attraction; the country has opened up the Maglev train to the public for around forty days each year. Everyday people consider a ride on the Maglev somewhat of a dream come true, with hundreds crowding the observation deck just to get a glimpse of the world’s fastest train in action. The Central Japan Railway Company has been conducting tests along the Yamanashi test track for the last twenty years, and in a few years more, the Maglev will be a reality.

What exactly is the Maglev train?
The Maglev train technology is a technically advanced form of rail travel based on a superconducting magnetic levitation system, which is why the train is called the SC Maglev. If you’ve ever played with magnets, you’ll know how opposite poles attract and like poles repel. Well, electromagnetic propulsion uses this same principle on the SC Maglev train, replacing the conventional steel wheels and tracks with magnetic substitutes. The absence of friction allows the trains to reach incredible speeds of hundreds of miles per hour. Maglev trains rarely even touch the tracks, which means there is hardly any vibration or noise. Riders can expect a smooth, comfortable ride.
