After so many hours of driving, rest time for a driver should be sacred. Instead--even the break becomes a source of stress. Lack of parking spaces, poor hygienic conditions and a total absence of services make rest stops a nightmare. Laura Broglio says that if there is one thing she can't stand about rest stops, beyond the exorbitant costs of being able to get a more or less decent meal, it is that "the bathrooms are never clean, especially in the summer when there is a large influx. In addition, the showers, where present, are in indecent condition or otherwise closed. After a day of work being able to take a shower should be a right rather than a luxury."
