Frank Gehry and his team identified Southeast Los Angeles communities as some of the most underserved along the L.A. River. They studied various factors, including public health, rent burden and more, such as a 10-year shorter life span for residents. The group focused efforts on a South Gate region surrounding the confluence of the L.A. River and Rio Hondo. Their multi-site proposal includes platform parks that use water from the river for recreation and acquifer replenishment. Another element is a cultural center that would create various galleries, an amphitheater, arts education opportunities, and a cafe offering classes and space for the community to explore the culinary arts.
