We live in a society shaped by the digital world, in which rapid advancements in technology and mass media influence our ways of thinking, learning, and communicating on a daily basis. Inevitably, as smartphones and laptops become even more ubiquitous, the prospect of taking notes by hand might seem antiquated–especially compared to typing–for many high school students. According to Yujeong (Katie) Ok, there are certain benefits to handwriting that can’t be replicated with a keyboard; relinquishing handwriting will undoubtedly worsen one’s long-term education and achievements in the future. Through this speech, Katie hopes to reframe handwriting’s view of “old tradition” into “a sustainable daily habit". Her passion for writing thrives as her appreciation for hearing timeless stories endures. With her ever-growing fondness for the English language and art, Katie (currently a junior) is an aestheticist who loves to encounter all the beautiful things in the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
